Afghan forces kill 5 IS militants in northern Kunduz province

SECURITY forces stormed a suspected hideout of Daesh or Islamic State (IS) outfit in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province, killing five insurgents on Tuesday, provincial police spokesman Abidullah Abidi said.
“Acting on tip of the security forces stormed a hideout of Khawarej (a reference used for Daesh) in Police District 2 of provincial capital Kunduz city today morning killing five on the spot,’’ Abidi said.
The armed insurgents were staying in a house to create law and order problems but security forces foiled their vicious designs before taking any action, the official said.
A day earlier on Monday, the security forces, according to local media reports, captured an operative of IS outfit in Kabul.
The arrested man is responsible for killing 18 people in terrorist activities and had used several names to hide his identity, according to security officials.
The hardliner Islamic State outfit, which has claimed responsibility for some deadly bomb blasts over the past year, has yet to make comment. (Xinhua/NAN)
