THE African Export Import Bank, AFREXIMBANK, and World Bank have commended the African Capacity Building Foundation, ACBF, for hosting a conference which focused on youth employment.
They made this known at the 27th annual meeting of the board of governors of ACBF which took place in Yaounde, Cameroon, from July 19 – 20, with the theme: “Youth Employment in Africa: Focus on Developing the Critical Skills”.
At the opening session of the conference, Okey Oramah, president and chairman of the board of directors of the African Export Import Bank, AFREXIMBANK, whose goodwill message was delivered by Stephen Tio Kauma, said having read through the ACBF annual report for 2017, he had no doubt that 27 years later the Foundation “continues to play a leading role in spearheading and coordinating capacity development programmes across the African continent”.
Noting that the African Export Import Bank has been in existence for a slightly shorter period than ACBF, having celebrated our silver jubilee just this past week in Abuja, he, however, said the bank “is very happy with the level of partnership we have built up with ACBF especially in the last couple of years.”
“Afreximbank was formed for the purposes of transforming Africa’s economy through trade, a herculean task that we cannot achieve on our own. Working with partners like ACBF ensures that the heavy load of transforming Africa is shared with different partners who are of like mind. This is the only route to the African success story that we all desire.
“I am glad to note that Afreximbank pledged funds towards supporting ACBF’s budget for the planning period 2017-2021. I can confirm that the Bank will continue to support ACBF because we believe in their vision, mission and have tasted the fruit of their extensive work across the continent.
“I am also happy to know that Afreximbank is currently working with the ACBF on two specific projects; design and implementation of a post graduate degree in trade finance, to be anchored at different African universities as well as assisting the Bank to design a pedagogical curriculum which captures the Bank’s historical journey, for posterity purposes,” he said.
In his address, the representative of the World Bank in Cameroon said the theme chosen for this year, “Youth employment in Africa” is very important and especially crucial with regard to the sustainable development of the continent. According to him, the bank is delighted to be able to participate in sharing these ideas on this important topic.
“The World Bank is a long-standing partner of ACBF and we hope to see ACBF continue to play a key role in building capacity on the continent. It is our wish that the 27th Annual Session of the ACBF Board of Governors will be fully successful,” he said.
