THE African Heritage Institution (Afri-Heritage) a socio-economic and political analytical institution, has called for a change in leadership structure and philosophy.

The Executive Director of Afri-Heritage, Prof. Ufo Okeke-Uzodike, made the call on Tuesday in Enugu while declaring open ‘The Big Idea Podium’ lecture series.

The theme of the lecture series is: “Building Transformative Leadership for Nigeria.”

Okeke-Uzodike said that the country needed transformative leaders, who would be bothered about why certain public goods and services were collapsing and why many other challenges were rising up daily.

According to him, the issue of leadership is fundamental, as it is one of the biggest issues facing the country.

“There is need to have a change in leadership structure and philosophy to one that cares and ask deep searching questions on why things are going wrong.

“For instance, why is it that our universities do not seem to care on the quality of graduates they produce yearly. Why is it that our hospitals do not care about the number of deaths they record.

“Our present leadership failure is making Nigerians suffer pain and rejection even in far places such as South Africa, Libya and Europe.

“Whereas our people could stay here and be productive under focused and visionary leadership,’’ he said.

The executive director lamented that constantly Nigerians produce and vote for leaders who did not lead well, adding: “I suspect it is about individual Nigerians’’.

“May be if we change our leadership structure and philosophy; we might find the right answers.

“The country needs to move forward and we need leaders with vision, character, integrity and focus to help us move ahead like other developed countries,’’ he said. (NAN)
