The first phase of Togo’s voter registration exercise (Zone I) ended on Tuesday, 9th October after a 24-hour extension.
Some centres in the nation’s capital, Lomé, which had electricity supply remained open beyond the official closing time of 17h GMT, while some closed earlier because of the challenge of fuel supply to power their generators.
Still, some centres took down the names of those they could not register to be forwarded to the National Electoral Commission, CENI, for a decision on the next line of action, while a number of unregistered persons went home disappointed after the nine-day exercise.
The second phase of the national registration in Zone II is scheduled for 17 to 24 October ahead of the planned parliamentary election in December.
