The African Heritage Institution (AfriHeritage), on Tuesday urged all men across the country to give women a chance in sociopolitical and economic service delivery and jobs for the sake of national development.

The Executive Director, AfriHeritage, Prof. Ufo Okeke-Uzodike, made the call in Enugu during an address on the Big Ideas Podium Conference with the themed: “Gender Disparity and Under-development in Nigeria’’.

He said it was wrong to exclude the majority of the population being women from major socioeconomic and political hubs, thus, leading to slow pace of development in the country.

According to Okeke-Uzodike, women are not properly placed in service oriented departments and public jobs to make their impact felt in the country.

“The country has been lagging behind on issues of health, education, politics and security because the major people these subjects affect mostly are not included in the scheme of things.

“For rapid development, African countries like Rwanda, Ghana, and others are already having women actively participating in their socioeconomic and political life in their large numbers,’’ he said.

Okeke-Uzodike said that Nigerian men and authorities should learn to engage women due to their potentials and tenacity to succeed.

“However, women on their own must aggregate their strength to be proactive in participating in political and socioeconomic activities.

“Women should not continue to wait for things to be done for them, they must demand and agitate for positive and overwhelming inclusion in governance to make the difference.’’ (NAN)
