THE University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka says its hosting of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA) Games underscores its position as a force in sporting activities among Nigerian universities.
The Head, Communication Unit of the institution, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, made this known in a statement on Friday, in Lagos.
She said that the university, in taking up the challenge, was also demonstrating that excellence went beyond academics.
The university is hosting the 19th edition of the NiMSA Games from Oct. 5 to Oct. 13, at its sports centre, where over 20 medical schools from across Nigeria would come together to compete.
It is coming just after the university and the Lagos State University, Ojo, co-hosted the 11th edition of the African University Sports (FASU) Games from Sept. 20 to Sept. 29.
“By providing top-tier facilities and a supportive environment for athletes, UNILAG is positioning itself as a hub for future sports events.
“UNILAG’S teams are preparing diligently to excel in various sports from football and basketball to track and field events, amongst others,” she said.
Alagq-Ibraheem said that the event was more than just a competition, but a celebration of athletic prowess, collaboration, and the future of healthcare in Nigeria.
“UNILAG is proud to be at the forefront of this movement, setting the stage for a memorable and impactful NiMSA Games,” she said.
The varsity spokesperson said it was another opportunity to showcase the beauty and vibrancy of Lagos, inviting participants and attendees to explore one of Africa’s most iconic cities.
“The event offers an opportunity to experience the rich culture, stunning landscapes, and vibrant energy that Lagos has to offer,” she said.
She said that the event would promote unity and camaraderie across the nation’s medical schools, building stronger connections through shared goals and the spirit of competition.(NAN)
