Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that his government would ensure the development and wellbeing of the residents of the state when voted into office.
This is coming just as he once again lamented that the state has underachieved since the current political order came into being almost 20 years ago with a vow to reorder the state back into the path of growth and prosperity.
A statement from the media office of the Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation, JACO, issued in Lagos, on Wednesday, quoted the governorship hopeful of making the vow during series of town hall meetings with a cross section of the stakeholders in Oshodi-Isolo Local government.
To address the gap, Agbaje told those who gathered to meet him at the meetings that the issues of education, power generation and healthcare nurtured by an integrated insurance scheme would form the core cardinal objectives of his government.
Agbaje was accompanied by his running mate, Haleemat Busari, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works, some state officers of the party such as Taofeek Gani, publicity secretary, Niyi Adams, state youth leader, and scores of other chieftains of the PDP.
Addressing his audience, which also include artisans drawn from various vocations as well as scores of other stakeholders Agbaje also took a jibe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state over its botched campaign flag off on Tuesday.
Commenting further on the fracas that ensued during Tuesday, APC flag off, Agbaje who regretted the development which he attributed to misrule said in Pidgin English that “Na dem know wetin dem dey fight for. Na there wahala be that. By May 29, dem go carry their load go.”
Agbaje, who also paid a courtesy visits to some traditional rulers in the local government such as the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka and the Elewu of Ewuland, Oba Shakirudeen Adesina Kuti, stated that the issue of human capital development would form the cornerstone of his administration when elected.
“They have been in charge (of the state) for the last 20 years, what can they show for it?” he asked rhetorically, adding that successive state governments have not been human capital development centric in their approach to governance.
On education, Agbaje stated that “Under me, we will not have a situation where our school pupils will sit on bare floor, in schools without rooftop,” he said just as he lamented that the situation is quite unacceptable in the 21st century.
While stating that the he would bridge the energy gap that exists in the state, which he estimated to be about 3000 megawatts, he however promised to deliver 1000 megawatts with the first 18 months of assuming office.
Expressing his resolve to meet the energy requirement of the state, Agbaje said, “I will bridge the gap in four years,” adding that the energy deficit in the state has impacted negatively on the economic fortunes of the state owing to low productivity of artisans plying their trade in Lagos.
