THE Jigawa Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA), has conducted a public health vector control exercise in 18 out of 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Mr Adamu Sabo, the Managing Director of the agency,  made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.

Sabo said, the exercise involved spraying  in mosquito breeding sites, including culverts and fumigation to kill adult mosquitoes.

He explained that the agency also cleared overgrown grasses to check breeding sites of mosquitoes in some schools and health facilities, as well as sanitising and decontaminating of flood in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

Sabo listed the benefiting LGAs as Kazaure, Gwiwa, Roni, Yankwashi, Ringim, Garki, Babura, Taura, Gumel, Sule Tankarkar, Maigatari, Gagarawa, Birniwa, Guri, Hadejia, Malam Madori, Kirikasamm and Kafin Hausa.

According to him, the project was aimed at getting rid of mosquitoes breeding in the areas and the state in general.

He, therefore, called on residents to reciprocate the gesture by keeping their environment clean in order to avoid mosquito bite which causes malaria.

“We are using this medium to advice people particularly at the grassroots to imbibe the culture of keeping their environment clean to avoid unnecessary infections as a result of dirty environment, ‘’ he said.

Sabo hinted that the agency would continue to sensitise residents on the need to always improve on their personal and environmental hygiene in order to live in good and healthy environments. (NAN)
