Larry Agose, former public relations adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc, starts his tenure as the new president of the Lagos Rotary Club, July 3

THE Rotary Club of Lagos has installed Larry Agose, former public relations adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc, as the its 55th president. Agose’s investiture was held in a ceremony at the Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, July 3. Speaking at the occasion, Agose thanked his colleagues for their commitment to the Rotary Club, stressing that they would strive to continue on the path of service to humanity in the coming Rotary year.
He listed six areas the club would be focusing on in the coming year. These include basic education and literacy as well as economic and community development; disease prevention and treatment and water and sanitation. Others are conflict resolution and maternal and child health.
Ayo Banjo, Agose’s predecessor in office, while giving his account of stewardship and activities of Rotary Club of Lagos in the last one year, said the club had been involved in so many positive and life changing events. “We have had major accomplishments this year. We have taken the initiative of adopting a village in Ibeju Lekki and teaching about 5000 residents how to make money through vocations. We also adopted malnourished children and pregnant women in the village,” Banjo said.
The former Rotary president thanked those who had invested time, funds and energy to make the club achieve its objectives in the course of the year stressing that without them, they would not have been able to achieve anything in the outgoing year.
Alexander Ogomudia, chairman of the occasion and former chief of Defence Staff, praised the impact of the Rotary Club on societies where they were found. He, however, lamented the dearth of moral and ethical standards in every aspect of the nation’s public and private lives. He said it was not enough for someone to say he was not involved as all belonged to one profession or the other.
Chris Ogbechie, guest speaker at the occasion and chairman of Diamond Bank Plc, who spoke on the joy of giving, said that in the spirit behind the Rotary philosophy, there was always a gain in giving.
