Anambra Agric Ministry establishes rice seed multiplication centre

IN A bid to ensure successful agricultural production in the state, the Ministry of Agriculture Mechanisation Processing and Export has established rice seed multiplication centre at Umumbo, Ayamelum Local Government Area.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting, Afam Mbanefo, Anambra Agric commissioner noted that the plan to multiply seed began in 2017 but was not initially successful and this affected dry season/irrigation programme.
“In view of this, the ministry decided to construct a rice seed multiplication centre at the Umumbo.
Mbanefo said that land would be provided by the community while the ministry would provide facilities like farm house, inputs, and security personal.
The commissioner said the project would benefit the community, by creating employment opportunities for youths.
Recently, Mbanefo and Leo Imoka, the permanent sectary, with all donor-supported programme coordinators paid courtesy call to Igwe Simeon Chidubem, the traditional ruler of Umumbo.
The visit was to sensitise him as well as to clarify some lingering disputes that emerged during a construction at the community.
He, however, solicit for their support and cooperation for the programme, which he said had social and economic benefit to the town.
