THE ancient Aguleri Kingdom has conferred on Governor Willie Obiano of Anmbra State, the chieftaincy title of Ebubedike, Aguleri.
The conferment was effected by Igwe Christopher Idigo, the traditional ruler of Aguleri, during the 118th Ofala Festival of Idigo dynasty in Aguleri.
Among other dignitaries honoured at the event include Bianca Ojukwu, a former ambassador and wife of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a renowned Igbo leader; Sani Shinkafi, a former national secretary of APGA; Joseph Ahaneku, vice-chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Conferring the title on Obiano, Idigo explained that although the community had recognised him in the past, the latest was in recognition of his outstanding performance in the state.
“It is also in recognition for his exploits in bringing honour to Aguleri Kingdom.
“As an ancient Igbo Kingdom, the Aguleri community will continue to uphold the rich Igbo cultural heritage and preserve it for upcoming generation,” the royal father added.
In response after receiving the title, Obiano expressed appreciation to Aguleri community for the honour done to him, which he noted, would a long way to strengthen his belief that he had the support of his people in the transformation of the state.
He said he was mindful of what the honour would mean and re-assured that he would remain committed to his social contract with Ndi Anambra to ensure the state would remain the true `Light of the Nation’.
Obiano assured people of his community that under his watch, they would always have cause to celebrate and rejoice.
Igwe Emeka Onuorah, the traditional ruler of Oraukwu, acknowledged that Aguleri Kingdom had remained at the forefront of promoting Igbo culture and tradition.
He prayed God to grant Igwe Idigo more successful years on the throne.
