A’Ibom speaker wins North-East senatorial seat

MR Anieken Bassey, Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, who contested for the Akwa Ibom North-East senatorial seat, has emerged victorious.
Bassey vied for the seat on the ticket of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
The Returning Officer, Prof. Enoidem Usoro, who announced the results in Uyo on Monday, said Bassey got 98,634 votes.
His closest rival, Mr Ukpong Emaeyak Nkanga of All Progressive Party (APC), got 43,204 votes.
Meanwhile, the Returning Officer for Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, Prof. Anthony Udoh, has also declared Sen. Godswill Akpabio of APC as winner having polled 115,401 votes.
Udoh, in his declaration, said that Akpabio defeated his closest rival, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem of the PDP, who polled 69,838 votes.
