UMAR Muri,  Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 13, has blamed the upsurge in crimes in Nigeria on the failure of courts to dispose of criminal cases expeditiously.

Muri made the observation during his pulling out ceremony from the Nigerian Police Force after 32 years service.

The ceremony was held on Friday at the Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, in Anambra.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that Muri began his 32 years service as a cadet in Anambra and retired as the AIG Zone 13, Ukpo in Anambra.

He said, “I have been worried over the delay litigants faced in the course of criminal prosecution due to the implication it has on crimes and criminality in our society.

“To allow a trial to drag up to five years and more is a wrong way to go and this obviously results to denial of justice and encouraging crimes.”

Muri said he regards Anambra as his second home due to many positive memories he has on the state and her citizens.

He said that he joined the police because of his passion to serve justice to all, adding, “I am happy I tried my best during my service period”.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra (CP), Echeng Echeng, in a goodwill message, described Muri as both a boss and course mate.

“Muri and I graduated same day from the Police College Kano, he later became the AIG of zone 13, while I am the CP of Anambra.

“He impacted on me as my boss and we worked as brothers, I must say that I will miss him dearly as he retires today,” he said.

Echeng, who said that the zone witnessed excellent leadership during Muri’s administration, added that the AIG has left a lot of positive footprints.

Also speaking, the CP of Enugu State, Ahmed Ammani said the retired AIG served the nation with compassion and set good examples for others to emulate.(NAN)
