THE Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, has tasked officers of the zone to be more proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties.
This is contained in a statement by the Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), CSP Umma Ayuba and made available to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zone 2 command comprises Lagos and Ogun States.
According to Ayuba, the AIG gave the charge at a security meeting held with the Commissioners of Police, and Strategic and Tactical Commanders in the zone.
The AIG said that the meetingting was aimed at ensuring maximum security within the zone all year round.
Fayoade therefore charged the principal officers to be more proactive, adopt community policing strategies, as well as improve public relations with a view to aiding intelligence gathering, which he said was key in crime fighting.
The AIG also harped on the need for physical and covert policing to rid the zone of criminal elements.
He emphasised on collaboration with sister agencies and partnership with members of the public.
The Police boss also charged officers to identify black-spots and beef up security in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
In attendance were the Commissioners of Police in charge of Lagos State Command, Olanrewaju Ishola, and Lanre Ogunlowo in charge of Ogun, as well as all Area/Squadron Commanders within the zone.(NAN)
