AIPS President congratulates new SWAN leadership

MR Gianni Merlo, President, Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS), has congratulated Isaiah Benjamin, the newly elected President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

He also extended same warmth to other members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

A statement signed by Ikenna Okonkwo, Secretary-General, SWAN, indicated that Merlo felicitated with the new leaders through phone calls.

The statement was made available to newsmen in Lagos on Thursday.

The statement quoted Merlo as promising to support SWAN in the areas of training and retraining of members whenever there was the need.

He tasked the SWAN president to carry all members along and ensure that the ethics of the profession were strictly obeyed.

Merlo disclosed that the AIPS centenary celebration was around the corner, urging Isaiah to prepared and participate fully.

He also advised the SWAN president to feel free to always reach out to him on any issue that required attention, and prayed to God for a successful tenure.

According to the statement, Isaiah, in his response, assured the AIPS president of his commitment to a vibrant SWAN that would be the pride of all members.

He stated that SWAN is an important member of AIPS and would fully participate in all its activities.

Isaiah further stated that training and retraining were cardinal points of his administration and would do all within his powers to avail members of such opportunity.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the new SWAN leadership was constituted on July 13, 2023 after a rigorous electoral process anchored by the National Electoral Committee. (NAN)
