CHIEF of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to embrace the culture of giving back to the society and selflessness for a better Nigeria.
Abubakar made the call at the launch of a book titled“ Steps, Strides and Glides’’ in Abuja on Saturday.
The book was written by Mrs Ini Usoro, a retired Director of Road Maintenance and Management Service, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Represented by Air vice Marshal Olanrewaju Oyename, Director of Air Engineering, Nigerian Air force, Abubakar who was the Chairman of the occasion, urged Nigerians to make positive impact on their communities.
“One of the legacies we need to think of in every field of endeavor is about what we can give back to the system, and not just what we can take from the system.
“This is because if it is all about what can I take? we are going to take everything and there will be nothing left for the younger generation.
“So we need to imbibe the culture of what we are going to give back to the system, and I see this book as giving back to the system and it is something to be encouraged,” he said.
The Book Reviewers described the 15-chapter book as a guide to navigating workplace, family and general challenges of life through compelling stories of determination and perseverance.
Ms Ebele Okeke, the First Female Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, said that author’s desire for continuous learning and intentional living was encouraging.
Okeke was represented by Mrs Nkem Wadibia-Anyanwu, former Permanent Secretary ,Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She said that the book was filled with situations that people could relate with, thereby serving as a mentoring tool on hard work, planning, and purposeful living among others.
“Steps, Strides and Glides signify that there are always the baby steps to take in life’s journey.
“As one grows, there is the tendency or ability to begin to take larger steps with ease and less difficulty, especially when within the right environment and company. |
“I knew Ini in the company of some other women engineers who are focused in their careers and life vision, and through the years, her tenacity and good disposition was well recognied.
“The book is written in such simplified style that once you start, you really want to get to know how the writer finally turned out,” she said.
According to the second book reviewer, Ms MakosiMusambasi,a Master Life Coach from Zimbabwe, the book is a manual on marriage on relationships, on resilience ,on resistance, on going for your goals.
“What you keep saying about yourself, to yourself, your internal dialogue will always make up who you become .The book stands out internationally,” said
The Book Author, Ini Usoro, said that it was an awesome feeling to have been able to impact lives by sharing knowledge.
“It is an awesome feeling to know that you have been able to put something down that even when you do pass on people will be there to read and it will be as if you are there speaking .
“I was nearing my retirement age, having spent about 28 years in the civil service; I just kept asking myself, how do I leave my footprints in the sands of time? What can I do that will live beyond me?
“I just tried to bring everything together using my own experiences to chart a path of success, and like I keep telling people, when I hear it is impossible, what I see possibIlity.
“This because I strongly believe that what you believe in and aim to do, if you are focused with perseverance and with determination, you will definitely get there,” she said. (NAN)
