THE Commander, 211 Quick Response Group of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Owerri, Air Commodore David Bello, has restated the NAF’s commitment to the welfare of its veterans in Imo.

Bello stated this at the year 2024 Base Socio-cultural Activities and Chief of the Air Staff’s Parley, organised by the NAF in Owerri, on Saturday.

The commander, who thanked the veterans for their years of dedicated service to Nigeria, assured them of continued protection and cooperation.

He said that the sociocultural activities were aimed at further strengthening civil-military relations, especially with NAF’s host communities.

He also said that the parley, initiated by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, would be sustained as it would provide a platform for serving officers to interact with veterans so as to give attention to the overall welfare.

He urged the veterans to visit the medical unit of the NAF  in the event of a health challenge to ensure proper medical treatment.

“ Feel free to visit the Air Force medical unit, see the medical doctors, the nurses for your treatment any day, any time “, he said.

He further thanked the unit’s officers for their resilience the fight against terrorists and criminal activities in Imo adding that this has resulted in a sharp decline in the activities of the separatist Independent People of Biafra and created a  relatively safer environment .

“ Today marks an important milestone in our Unit’s calendar, as we come together to celebrate our diversity, foster comradeship, and strengthen the bonds that unite us.

“As members of the armed forces, we are often called upon to make sacrifices and put our duties first but it is equally important that we take time to relax, recharge, and reconnect with one another.

Martins Oleru, who spoke on behalf of other Veterans, expressed his joy for the establishment of the veteran parley by the CAS and called on the leadership of the NAF to sustain the initiative.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that among other activities at the event were a tug of war and culinary displays as well as traditional music and dance performances. (NAN)
