AIRAsia’s Cambodian unit would launch daily domestic flight operations on May 2, as the low-cost airline aimed to boost air travel in the Southeast Asian country.

It said this in a news reported on Monday.

The airline will start with three domestic flight destinations: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, utilising two A320 aircraft based at Phnom Penh International Airport, the news release said.

AirAsia Cambodia Chief Executive Officer Vissoth Nam said this would not only improve connectivity but also encourage travellers to stay longer in Cambodia.

“Our vision is to transform the way people travel in Cambodia and make air travel an integral part of the country’s transportation network,’’ he said.

He added that the fares were as low as 49 U.S. dollars in one way to amazing domestic destinations.

He said more local and international visitors could experience the wonder of Cambodia by air affordably.

Nam said he believed that the airline would contribute to fostering the local economy by providing jobs to locals and supporting tourism development. (Xinhua/NAN)
