Aiyedatiwa, who was at the palace of Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, said he had to visit the community since he heard that one person died in the incident.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one life was lost, with property worth millions of Naira destroyed in the community during the rainstorm on Tuesday.
The governor said the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had been on ground to compile the list of the affected houses and would ensure succour was given to the victims.
He said it was a disaster that no one planned for, and also appreciated God that the disaster of such magnitude did not kill more than one person and condoled with the family of the deceased.
“We thank God that it was not more than that; may God give the family of the ones that lost her life the fortitude to bear the loss. I have to come since I heard about the incident.
“SEMA is on top of the situation and will get the details and send them to the deputy governor because it is under his office and later to my office.
“The government has made arrangements for such disaster, I assure you that we will do the needful when we see the reports.
“It’s not planned, that’s why it is called natural disaster, farmers are praying for rain to plant, but we didn’t pray for such disaster to happen,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa advised residents to cultivate the habit of planting trees so that it would serve as windbreakers.
“We can’t stop such occurrences, but we can help reduce the effect by planting trees,” he said.
He appreciated the people and the traditional ruler for coexisting peacefully.
The traditional ruler of the town, the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, Oba Idowu Faborode, appreciated the governor for the concern and show of love. (NAN)
