AKSG begins selection of volunteers for free medical, surgical outreach

THE Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the selection process for medical professionals who intend to volunteer at the AKSG Free Medical & Surgical Outreach in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, an initiative that was announced by Governor Umo Eno, over two weeks ago.

The news of this medical outreach has been warmly received by the people of the senatorial distinct, coming on the heels of the successful outreach in Uyo and Oron respectively, earlier this month.

The Free Medical Outreach is scheduled to hold at the General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene in the 2nd week of March (11th-16th).

In an interview with members of the press, the state commissioner for health, Prof Augustine Vincent Umoh, stated that medical professionals, who are willing to partner with the government have been invited to offer their professional expertise to assist the poor and vulnerable in the society address some of the health challenges militating against their wellbeing, quality of life and economic productivity.

He called on professional bodies such as the NMA, PSN, AMLSN, NANNM among others to partner with the government in delivering succour to the people of Ikot Ekpene district, particularly the rural dwellers.

He thanked the governor for not just being a health-friendly governor, but also responding to the yearnings of the people through his pragmatic approach to governance and service delivery to the people.

In his reaction, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Medicals, Ekem Emmanuel John, praised Governor Umo Eno for his visionary approach to healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, while the governor is embarking on the long term approach of healthcare infrastructure renaissance with emphasis on Primary Healthcare in particular and secondary/tertiary training institutions in general, his short-term strategy of immediate healthcare interventions through the series of free medical outreaches is a win-win for all.

He thanked the corporate strategic partner, Hensek Integrated Services, for announcing his willingness to partner with the government to deliver this service.
