AKWA United and Lobi Stars are to contest the 2015 Federation Cup final. Both sides successfully defeated their opponents at semi-final fixtures played on Wednesday, August 19.

Akwa United beat Nasarawa United 1-0 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to reach the final of the competition. Aniekpeno Udoh scored the winner after 37 minutes to put the Uyo-based club within one match of winning the title.

Zachary Baraje, coach of Akwa United, said after the game that his side was under the cosh for long periods but said they deserved the win in the end. “If I must be honest, I think they (Nasarawa United) dominated possession, but in the end we were patient and took our chances. I am not worried about who we meet in the final because I know we are a good side and should do well in the final,” he told Supersport.com.

In the second semi-final decided at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina, Lobi Stars stunned Enugu Rangers, title favourites, 1-0.

Eche Idakwo smacked home the game’s only goal to ensure Rangers’ wait for a first title since 1984 continues.

Rangers were reduced to nine players after Rasaq Adegbite and Christian Madu received red cards in a tempestuous contest.
