Al-Azhar Academy closed down not Zaria Academy over death of student - KSSQAA

THE Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) has clarified that it closed down Al-Azhar Academy closed down not Zaria Academy over death of student flogged to death by a teacher.

The clarification was contained in a public announcement recently signed by the Public Affairs Officer (PAO), KSSQAA, on behalf of Usman Abubakar, director- general of the authority.

The text of the public announcement, made available to Realnews last week was issued on the 21st of October, 2023, and entitled: “Alleged Homicide at Al-Azhar Academy, Zaria and Indefinite Closure of the School, reference no.: KSSQAA /GEN/. 75/VOL1/85.’

The announcement reads: “It has been brought to our attention that a national daily newspaper, misquoted the school’s name, referring to it as “Zaria Academy” instead of “Al-Azhar Academy, Zaria.”

“To clarify, Al-Azhar Academy, Zaria, is the school that has been closed down by the Kaduna State Government. 

The closure is in response to the tragic incident involving a JSS III (Basic 9) student named Marwan Nuhu Sambo. We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the school community for this unfortunate loss.”
