GOVERNOR Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has urged security operatives to thoroughly investigate the recent killing of seven persons and 73 cows by gunmen in Kadarko community of Keana Local Government Area of the state.
Al-Makura made the call during the meeting of the State Security Council on Tuesday in Lafia, following two attacks on the community that occurred on Sunday and Monday.
“Suspected cattle rustlers invaded the community on Sunday, killed 73 cows and abducted two herdsmen.
“The community was again invaded by gunmen on Monday, leading to the death of Seven villagers,” he said.
He said a thorough investigation would go a long way in helping the government to proffer lasting solution to the wanton killings.
The Governor said he was also liaising with his Benue Counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom with a view to ending the carnage.
“We have been talking since morning, sharing ideas on how to address the situation,” he said.
He directed all members of the state Community-based Conflict Resolution Committees to rise to the occasion by engaging all stakeholders in the various local government areas, especially the communities sharing border with Benue.
Al-Makura said such engagement would help to sensitise the people to government’s efforts, build confidence amongst stakeholders as well check speculations that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in other parts of the state. – NAN
