ALGERIAN Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Algerian Foreign Ministry, the talk came shortly before the UN Security Council adopted a resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The talk highlighted Algeria’s role as the originator of the draft resolution and its negotiation efforts with other UN Security Council members.

Since the beginning of its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in January, Algeria has been working to pass a draft resolution toward a ceasefire in Gaza.

This is the third time in two months that Blinken called his Algerian counterpart to discuss the development in Gaza.  (Xinhua/NAN)
