THE National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, has said the campaign team of President Muhammadu Buhari resorted to accusing the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and others of supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar because the President is already afraid of the imminent defeat on Saturday at the poll.
Ologbondiyan said this while briefing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said the accusation against the foreign election observers had shown that the President and his campaigners had become confused because of the popularity of the presidential candidate of the PDP and the accusation against the super powers was an evidence of their frustration.
Ologbondiyan said that if Atiku, who the All Progressives Congress said could not enter into the US had suddenly become the darling of everybody, then it was an evidence that Buhari had been rejected.
He said, ” The allegation of Buhari’s campaign team that the US, United Kingdom and the European Union are supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is evidence that they are jittery already. They are jittery because of Atiku’s popularity. This is somebody they said could not enter into the US some few weeks back.
“If the allegation against the superpowers is true, then even the ECOWAS is supporting Atiku. They know that Buhari cannot offer leadership in the sub-region because he lacks the capacity to do so. The APC has been campaigning for our candidate with their claims that the superpowers are supporting Atiku and it is good.”
Ologbondiyan accused the ruling party of dictating to the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying the opposition had raised many issues but the APC told the electoral commission to ignore their concerns, adding that the INEC obeyed the ruling party rather than addressing the issues the PDP had raised.
He also raised the alarm of the alleged plot to rig the election with the new method of simultaneous accreditation and voting. He said this method gave room for some people to vote more than once because they could vote in one unit and move to other units to also vote. – Punch
