THE recently sacked chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, APC, Kano, is making good his threat of ensuring that the House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and the 3 other accused members of the leadership are prosecuted. This followed his visit to the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Ibrahim where he was said to have submitted petitions.
Jibrin who was sighted making his way in and out of the agencies was said to have carried out the exercise in company of 10 lawyers, amongst whom were Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs). Recall that Jibrin on Saturday claimed to have recorded success in his bid to facilitate the removal of the House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, his Deputy, Lasun Yusuff, Chief Whip, Ado Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Okuweh Ogor, all whom he accused of abusing their offices by illegally demanding for the sum of N40billion out of the N100billion constituency projects funds allocated to the National Assembly in the 2016 Appropriation.
Jibrin in that statement had said: “Yesterday (Friday) we recorded huge success in our mission to get the Corrupt Speaker of the House Yakubu Dogara and his cohorts to face prosecution. Our petition to the EFCC and ICPC against Speaker Dogara, Lasun, Doguwa, Ogor and eight other members have been dispatched yesterday. The case against them ranges from corrupt enrichment, abuse of office & public trust, living above means, massive movement of funds in budget”, he said.
Other accused members according to the statement include: chairman FCT, Hon Herma Hembe, Chairman Higher Education, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, Chairman Health, Hon. Chike Okafor, Chairman Power, Hon. Dan Asuquo, Chairman Marine Transport, Hon. Mohammed Bago, Chairman Police Affairs, Hon. Haliru Jika, Chairman Interior, Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba and Chairman, House Services, Hon. Babale Ila.
“This is a defining moment in the struggle to cleanse the House, first time a member will drag 12 of his colleagues to the anti graft agencies”, he stated.
Jibrin added that his action has opened a rare opportunity for the anti corruption agencies to decisively use his petition as a case study to send powerful signal to corrupt officer holders. “I am confident that the EFCC and ICPC will affect the arrest of Speaker Dogara and the 11 others to commence prosecution in earnest,” he stressed.
He pledged to make the contents of the said petition to the EFCC and ICPC public in due course, adding that “I shall return with more shocking revelations.” – Vanguard
