Alleged cheating: Court issues bench warrant against property agent
Judiciary
A Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa, on Monday issued a bench warrant authorising the arrest of a 49-year-old property agent, Francis Akhuameokhun over failure to appear for trial.
The Judge, Yahaya Sheshi issued the warrant, following an oral application made by the prosecution counsel, John Okpa, who noted that the defendant was absent to defend the charge against him.
Sheshi also ordered that the surety be served notice to show cause why the bail bond entered should not be forfeited.
He adjourned the matter until May 25 for hearing.
The police had charged the defendant with criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating, which he pleaded not guilty to.
Earlier Okpa told the court that the complainant, Mr Olukotun Samuel, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on May 13, 2022.
He alleged that the complainant entrusted his house located at Gbazango, Abuja to the defendant to sell and remit the proceed to him sometime in 2021.
The prosecution counsel said the house was valued at N2.8 million but the defendant misappropriated and converted the sum of N1.8 million to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312, 309 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
