Alleged misappropriation: Court admits marketer to N4m bail

A Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, admitted a cooperative society marketer, Kate Solomon, accused of allegedly misappropriating N3.5million, to bail in the sum of N4 million.
The Judge, Malam Yahaya Sheshi, also ordered that the defendant to provide one surety.
Sheshi said the surety must provide two passport photographs, National identity card or driver’s licence and N200, 000 cash as a security to the court.
He adjourned the matter until April 4 for final report of settlement.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ibrahim Audu had earlier applied for bail for his client pursuant to Section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Audu told the court that the defendant had been in detention since December, 2022 and is seeking means to settle the complainant, Managing Director of Zenith Plus Cooperative Society limited, Naomi Oluku.
The police charged the defendant with criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating which she pleaded not guilty to on Dec.22.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa told the court that the complainant, employed the defendant as a marketer sometime in February 2022.
Okpa alleged that the complainant entrusted the defendant with the responsibility of collecting daily contributions from customers and remit to the office.
The prosecution counsel said the defendant collected N3, 585, 070 from several customers but misappropriated and converted the money to her personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312, 309 and 322 of the Penal Code.
According to section 312, whoever commits criminal breach of trust shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to seven years or with a fine or both.
Section 322 states that whoever cheats shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or both.(NAN)
