THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State Branch has made a passionate appeal to Professor Charles Soludo to overhaul and fortify security architecture of the state in order to adequately save and secure the state.
In a statement issued by Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman and Chidi Mbah, Secretary respectively tagged “let us secure our state” in commemoration of 32years of the state creation, the group recalled that military president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida created Anambra State on August 27, 1991.
It added that the CLO and the people of Anambra are worried that due to insecurity some citizens celebrate burials and traditional marriages in more safer and secured towns and cities.
The group noted that security is the responsibility of both the government and the governed and that all hands must be on the deck.
“If you see something, say something and save our state, citizenry and properties.
“We commends former governor Ezeife for laying the foundation for socioeconomic development of Anambra State as the pioneer governor, Ngige for his unprecedented massive roads construction and Obi for his aggressive development of all sectors of the state economy through his sustainable development goals and the current the administration for its efforts to sustain the tempo.
“The best and greatest anniversary gifts Anambrarians, residents and citizens expect from His Excellency include but not limited to improved security, eradicating and dismantling illegal revenue agents, uncivil task forces, touts and touting ,multiple taxations and strict baring of revenue agents from collecting tolls or revenue from petty traders, vulcanizer, hawkers, mechanics, barrow and truck pushers,” the statement said.
The group urged the governor to advise his commissioners and political appointees to make themselves available and accessible to the citizens and attend promptly to their complaints and problems.
According to the group, the governor should commence urgently processes towards the democratization of local governments system in the state.
It recalled that Anambra State is the only state that has conducted local government election once since inception of the current democratic dispensation by former governor Peter Obi in 2014.
“We commend Commissioner for Petroleum and Minerals Resources, Anthony Ifeanya, Christian Mmadubuko and CSP Christian Aburime for their patriotism, humility and selflessness in tackling and attending to problems and complaints brought before them.
