Anambra Assembly member gives scholarship to excelling students

Patrick Aniunoh, the lawmaker representing Onitsha South in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has confirmed giving out N9.5 million to 109 students for their first term school fees.

The money was given out following student’s excellent performance in the 2018 holiday lessons.

The event took place at No. 88 Zik’s Avenue Fegge, Onitsha.

Aniunoh said no fewer than 300 students have benefitted from scholarship schemes since emergence as a member of the House since 2015.

He stressed that his reasons for organising the scheme was to take the children off the streets and to reduce some of challenges facing parents in taking care of their children.

Mofus Ezeoba, the chairman of APGA, Onitsha South, said it was only in Onitsha South that there was a legislator with signature project that has made the Local Government to become outstanding.

He described Aniunoh as transparent lawmaker, who had given them the most important things in life to members of his constituency, urging the constituents to vote him back in the 2019 General Election.

Anthonia Okonkwo, the coordinator, the Patrick Aniunoh Scholarship Scheme, said that they organised holiday lessons for Junior and senior students and examination at the end of the exercise.

Okonkwo said that 250 students were selected for the scholarship from the examination conducted at the end of the holiday lesson.

She added that the scheme would be aimed at giving every child, the opportunity to excel. The exercise was based on merit.

Okonkwo noted said that they were giving back to the children because they had not forgotten their routes, which was Onitsha, where they were brought up.

Vivian Ilozurike and Iloegbunam Patricia, parents of the beneficiaries, commended Aniunoh for his kind gesture praying God to bless his endeavours.
