THE Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, ASPHCDA, in collaboration with partner agencies is organising Sub-National Immunisation Plus Days, SIPDs.

The event, which begins on Saturday, Nov. 28 and ends on Dec. 1, was necessitated by recent certification of Nigeria as ‘Polio-Free’ by the World Health Organisation, WHO, on Aug. 25.

The Executive Secretary, ASPHCDA, Chioma Ezenyimulu, in a circular noted that the country will continue to administer Oral Polio Vaccine, OPV, to eligible children of 0 – 59 months to maintain the certification.

“This is to contribute to total global eradication of Polio and interrupt any recirculation of Wild Polio in the country.

“The state will always join efforts of the country to achieve this and interrupt any recirculation of Wild Polio Virus in the state.

“Venue for the event is Public Health Facilities/other designated points, houses to house, which include; Churches, Mosque, Markets, Schools, Motor Parks, Village Squares and anywhere children are found,” she added.

Ezenyimulu solicited the cooperation of the public for the exercise and mobilisation of wards to present every eligible child for vaccination at the nearest health facilities and designated locations.
