Anambra State government through the Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, IFAD-Assisted Programme is set distribute about N8 million worth of agro inputs to farmers for 2018 wet season farming.
Nnamdi Agwuncha, the state programme coordinator, SPC, of the VCDP, said this during a meeting of stakeholders for the wet agro input distribution held at the Agricultural Development Programme, ADP, complex, Awka.
The meeting was aimed at consolidating strategies for the distribution and redemption of inputs.
In attendance at the meeting were the International Fertiliser Development Centre, IFDC; Agro-dealers, the State Programme Management Unit, SPMUs; liaison officers, and the extension agents.
Farmers were informed of the various redemption centres across five local government areas, in Anambra East, Anambra West, Awka North, Ayamelum and Orumba North.
In a remark, Agwuncha said that necessary arrangements had been made to ensure smooth and successful distribution exercise to farmers for the wet season farming.
Agwuncha, who expressed regrets over late distribution of the inputs, explained that all was for successful agro input distribution.
He added that with engagement of IFDC, farmers could be rest assured of smooth exercise.
Obioma Mbanefo, special assistant to the governor on VCDP, urged the extension agents to embrace the exercise as a challenge to their duties as extension workers, since they would be involved in the exercise.
Eugenia Chukwuemeka, the representative of IFDC, enjoined the extension agents to work effectively with officials to ensure success of the project.
