Anambra Election: Security Agencies assure Credibility

THE security agencies in Anambra state have expressed their readiness to provide security for the conduct the governorship election scheduled for November 18, in the state.
Garba Umar, chairman of INEC/Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and commissioner for Police in the state, gave the indication shortly after a meeting of the Committee at the INEC headquarters Awka.
He said that the meeting was to review the progress that the commission had made so far and examine areas of improvement.
Umar, however, called on the people of the state to come out en-masse to participate in the election.
On the issue of threat to disrupt the election by a group, Umar gave the assurance that the security agencies were on top of the situation.
Nkwachukwu Orji, resident electoral commissioner, REC, of INEC in the state, said their card readers have been tested and was all functional.
He explained that the commission would within one week take possession of the permanent voter’s card and urged members of the public to go to the commission’s offices across the state to collect theirs.
The meeting had in attendance all the security chiefs in the state, Sule Momodu commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Sunday Ajayi, sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps.
