ANAMBRA State Government on Monday, November 13, commenced payment of N100, 000 agric take-off grants to 2,250 indigenes, selected from five Local Government Areas at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Complex, Awka.
According to Ezechukwu Chioma, the focal person of the state government’s Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, the grants were for the people to start off their agricultural businesses.
“The selected LGAs are Ihialla, Anambra West, Anaocha, Ogbaru and Orumba North.
“The take-off grant is N100, 000 and it will be given to each of the 450 beneficiaries from each of the LGAs totalling, 2,250 to enable them to start off their agricultural businesses,’’ Ezechukwu said.
She noted that the beneficiaries had earlier been paid N5, 000 each for 12 months as training allowance. “The N5, 000 lasted for 12 months, so we are paying them the N100, 000 to use to start off their agricultural businesses,’’ she said.
Ikechukwu Okafor, from Umuoba Abegbu Anam in Anambra West LG said that he struggled to secure his own N100, 000 cheque.
“It was not easy getting my own cheque,’’ Okafor said.
Ezechukwu added: “each beneficiary will be monitored to know how they utilised the funds for the businesses.’’
