GOV. Willie Obiano of Anambra State has condoled with the family of Biafran War veteran, Col. Emmanuel Nworah Nwobosi, who passed away on Nov. 24.

Nwobosi, 81, who died at his country home, Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, was a Captain in the Nigerian Army and (Colonel) in the Biafran Army.

The veteran was also Chief of Staff to Late (General) Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was Head of State and Commander-In-Chief of the Biafran Army.

Nwobosi was one of the captains believed to have participated in the first military coup of 1996

Gov. Obiano, who paid a condolence visit to the family, described his demise as a sad day for the Igbo race.

“Nwobosi was a good man. I worked with him closely and played an active role during the Ozoemezina funeral,’’ he said.

Ozoemezina funeral featured a funeral Mass held for the repose of souls of those who died during the 30-month civil war during which not less than 3 million people died.

The memorable event was hosted by Gov. Obiano at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

“Nwobosi was a great man and I will honour him greatly. I pray God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,’’ the governor added.
