Anambra Head of Service honoured by Info Chapel of NUJ

HARRY Udu, the Anambra State head of service, HOS, on Thursday, October 19, received an Award of Excellence from the Anambra Information chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ.
This was the peak of events at the chapel’s maiden Information Management Conference tagged: “The Role of Information Officers/Film Censorship Officers in The Democratic Process: Promoting Objective Reportage.’’
Commending the group the HOS said he never allowed any group or society give him any award but had to receive this because: “I see information management as very important sector and I see myself as one of them.’’
Besides, he said that he had always loved the journalism profession.
Kate Omenugha, the chair of the occasion and Anambra State commissioner for Education, told information officers to value verbal and non-verbal communication as information was power.
Ogbuefi Tony Nnachetta, the commissioner for Information and Communications Strategy, used the occasion to announce that hardworking staff would soon be rewarded in the state.
His address was delivered by Ben Umerah, the ministry’s permanent secretary.
“A lot of goodies have been put in the pipeline to reward Information Officers who are hard-working at their various beats,’’ he said.
Various speakers also commended the chapel for holding the occasion and advised the workers to put in more efforts in news reporting and dissemination.
Levi Chinaka Nwodu, an associate professor of Mass Communication from the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, was the guest lecturer.
Speaking on the Role of Information Officer in a Democratic Process, Nwodu kept the audience spell-bound with anecdotes drawn from his many years as a practicing journalist before joining the academia.
