THE Anambra State Local Government Council Elections have been slated to hold on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
In a statement dated August 12, 2024, and signed by the Anambra State Chief Electoral Officer, Genevieve C. Osakwe, Esq., the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) informed all registered Political Parties and the general public that Local Government Elections in the State will be held on Saturday, September 28.
According to the statement, Election Timetable/Schedule of Activities and other details can be collected from the Headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Awka, from Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
The announcement is a landmark fulfilment of the promise of Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, to conduct Local Government Elections in no distant time.
Governor Soludo had on Tuesday, August 6, inaugurated the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), made up of Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe as Chairman with Mrs. Bernadine Obande (FCA), Barrister Osita Cyril Igbokwe, Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnalue, Mrs. Helen Ifeyinwa Umeh, and Mr. John Emeka Okeke as members.
At inauguration, Governor Soludo had tasked the Commission to set the date for Local Government Elections and overseeing the organization and conduct of peaceful and transparent local government polls in Anambra State.
Governor Soludo also stated that the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as well as the Anambra State Electoral Law explicitly mandated ANSIEC to conduct the Local Government Elections in a transparent and independent manner.
Governor Soludo then charged the members of ANSIEC to serve with honour and integrity in an exemplary way that will highlight the Anambra ethos as The Light of the Nation.
By setting the September 28 date for the Anambra State Local Government Elections, the Chairman of ANSIEC, Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe, Esq., is definitely delivering on the promise
PAUL NWOSU, Commissioner for Information, Anambra State.
