Anambra launches 2018 Ember month security operation

The Anambra State Government has launched 2018 Ember months’ security operation to tighten up state’s security, ahead of the yuletide season.
The launch witnessed presentation of more 50 smart bikes to the police in the state to enable them to embark on more patrols within hinterlands and other crime-prone areas.
The event, which took place at Township Stadium, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, attracted service commanders in the state that include the Police, Army, Navy, Federal Road Safety Corps and the DSS.
Inaugurating the operation, Governor Willie Obiano re-stated the resolve of his administration to provide adequate security that would assure of safety of lives and property.
Obiano said that not less than 50,000 Closed Circuit Television, CCTV, had been installed across the state to monitor every activity and identify hoodlums.
“I have approved the purchase of sets of operational vehicles for Vigilance Groups in the state. It is to reinforce them to be more proactive in their duties.
“We will disband any Vigilance Team that allows crime to be perpetuated in its territory,” he said.
The governor noted that the 50 sophisticated smart bikes donated, have communication gadgets that is linked to different police stations.
He urged the police to use them judiciously in fighting crime and criminality.
The governor also called on Ndi Anambra in the diaspora to come home for Christmas, as their security would be assured.
“We have also mapped out entertainment programmes to spice the celebration,” Obiano added.
He, however, warned criminals to flee from the state as his administration would intensify efforts at clamping down their command and control centres.
Hassan Kamar, the assistant inspector general of Police, Zone 9, commended the continued unity that currently exists between the state government and security agencies in the state.
Karmar observed that the security measures by Obiano had been projected to be seen as the safest in the federation, stressing that the initiative had effectively attracted economic growth.
Karmar urged the police to increase their tempo and work diligently in the course of discharge of their duties.
Garba Umar, the Anambra commissioner of Police, said the initiative was part of Obiano’s efforts at reinforcing activities of all security agencies to secure all nooks and crannies of the state.
The event also witnessed presentation of awards to the best performing officers in the following categories, Police, Army, Navy and Road Safety Corps.
