THE Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Christian Madubuko, says the government is making plans to map out land at Agu-Awka for Diaspora City Estate.
The land, according to him, will be allotted to Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to build houses of their choice.
Madubuko said this when he received the President of the Anambra State Association, ASA, worldwide and his entourage in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
“This idea is to encourage Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to come home to invest in the state and have houses to live in whenever they come home.
“The Ministry is also creating a website where Igbo language will be taught Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to learn their mother tongue.
“The website will have a lot of other interesting features such as tourism sites that will lure those abroad to come home and invest in order to boost the tourism sector.
“Endeavour to speak the Igbo language to your children at home to enable them to speak Igbo fluently as well as teach them aspects of our cultures and traditions,’’ he said.
He, then, commended them for their efforts in organising themselves very well abroad and familiarising with the state Government.
The President of ASA worldwide, Nwachukwu Anakwenze, a medical doctor from Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area, explained that the association has more than 27 branches worldwide.
“Our mission is to motivate youths, organise medical outreach and preach against social vices.
“In December, we will come down to Anambra to organise a healthcare and youth programme that will help to promote relationships between youths abroad and youths at home.
“We want our children abroad to learn how to cook Igbo cuisines, tie wrappers, play local instruments, engage in local activities and marry from home.
“Most blacks in the Caribbean are Igbos, who will want to trace their roots to Anambra and such visits will promote the tourism sector of the state.
“Anambra is blessed and the government should ensure that all the basic amenities are in good working condition to attract people living abroad,’’ he said.
The acting Director of Diaspora Affairs, Nneka Nwankwo, thanked the group for their visit to the Ministry, noting that it will yield good fruits.
She enjoined them to support the ministry and be good ambassadors of the state wherever they go.
