THE Anambra State government will on Monday, July 1, honour two indigenes who have just won prestigious national and international awards.

A statement by C. Don Adinuba, commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, says Governor Willie Obiano will personally lead the honour to underscore the importance which the state government attaches to excellent service as it strives to create a culture of quality service throughout the state.

The award winners are Nkechi Udeze, director of the Anambra State Library Board, and Alban Anonyuo, chief executive officer of the Renewed Initiative Against Diseases and Poverty, RENAGAIDS.

The Anambra State Library Board has just been named the winner of the first prize of the 2018 Nigeria Library Association in the Public Library category while Anonyuo last month received the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief Heroes Award, PEPFAR.

Udeze will be decorated with her award at the end of this month in Warri, Delta State, according to a statement from the National Secretary of the Nigeria Library Association, Atsenokhar Omoh.

Anonyuo’s award was given to him on June 10, in Abuja, by Stuart Symington, American ambassador to Nigeria, on the occasion marking PEPFAR’s 15th anniversary.

Anonyuo is the first Nigerian to win the award and one of the only 10 across the globe to receive the honour.

The Federal Government, through the National Action Committee Against AIDS, held a reception last week in Abuja for Anonyuo for the award.

An indigene of Ihiala in Anambra State, Anonyuo has been working for the past 19 years to end the HIV/HIV pandemic in Nigeria, and has been offering free consultancy service to the Anambra State Action Committee Against AIDS.
