Nnamdi Onukwuba, Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, says plans are underway for re-validation of Certificates of Occupancy, C of Os, and other documents issued on lands in Anambra.

The commissioner said this on June 9, during an inspection of some parts of Onitsha metropolis.

He said that the exercise would unmask land owners, who had been evading payment of ground rents and other forms of land revenue.

“The aim of this tour is to visit some flash points in Onitsha for on-the-ground assessment of the situation.

“Some property owners in Onitsha have exceeded the limit of lands allocated to them and encroached on government lands,” he said.

Onukwuba warned sand dredgers on the banks of River Niger to move their retaining walls away from the road as they constituted traffic jams.

He said that government would not hesitate to demolish such obstructions.

On illegal shanties around Forestry and Prison quarters, Onitsha, the commissioner appealed to residents to vacate the area as state government would soon commence removal of all illegal structures in the area.

He directed an official, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr Victor Okpoko, who also accompanied him on the inspection to ensure compliance to directives.

Cletus Mbaji, chief executive of Lake Petroleum Ltd., commended the commissioner for the visit and thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his development strides in the state.

Mbaji assured the state government that residents of Onitsha would always fulfil their financial obligations to Government and pleaded for rehabilitation of some roads in the area.
