Anniversary

GOV. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has cautioned his supporters against discussing 2023 politics, saying that it was too early to do so.

Emmanuel said this in a state broadcast to Akwa Ibom people in Uyo on Friday, to mark his five years in office since elected as governor in May 2015.

The governor said his administration would resist attempts by individuals or groups to return the state to period of fear occasioned by kidnapping and politically motivated crimes.

He said that the state has been peaceful and would not want anything that might jeopardise the current peace in the state.

Emmanuel urged the people to put less emphasis on partisan politics and concentrate on issues that would build and unite the people.

“This is the time for governance and all hands must be on deck to ensure that we move our state collectively to a path of steady growth and development. It is too early to engage in the politics of 2023.

“We will have enough time to do so, when the time is ripe. Good leaders do not plan for the next elections; they plan for the next generations.

“Let us, therefore, see the next generation of the state as assets that must be nurtured, expanded and made ready for the future.

“Destroying the chords of our unity at the altar of partisan politics, or waging wars against brothers and sisters just to settle ancient animosities should be discouraged.

“Let me emphatically state that Akwa Ibom people currently enjoys peace and security and will resist any attempt by individual or group to return us to the evil years,” he said.

The governor said that his administration had been able to utilise the resources at its disposal to touch lives in the areas of industrialisation, agriculture, education, healthcare delivery services, infrastructural development, aviation, youths and women empowerment, among others.
