A bomb blast which occurred at Central Mosque in Kano, has left many people killed
SEVERAL people were killed and many others sustained injuries as bomb blast rocked Kano central mosque at about 2:00 pm during the Friday jumat prayer. The explosion occurred while people were listening to the sermon by Sani Zahradeen, chief Imam of Kano.
Eyewitnesses said a heavy smoke engulfed the entire atmosphere immediately after the explosion, which brought the prayer service to an end as thousands of worshippers scampered for safety. Thereafter, there were reports of sporadic gunfire in the city as well while rescue operation was going on at the scene of the blast. Several good Samaritans also joined to remove corpses and take injured individuals to various hospitals for medical attention.
The central mosque is situated behind the Emir of Kano’s palace. Lamido Sanusi, emir of Kano, was out of the country when the incident occurred but sources said one of his sons narrowly escaped. Sanusi recently, in a message told people to rise up and defend themselves against Boko Haram insurgents.
Ikechukwu Eze, a captain and spokesman for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the blast.
