EDO House of Assembly on Tuesday congratulated the immediate past governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on his election as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker, Mr Kabiru Adjoto, who spoke for the assembly during plenary, said that the election of Oshiomhole would bring success to the party.
Adjoto described the former governor as an achiever, and expressed optimism that his tenure would strengthen the party and engender unity among members.
”Oshiomhole did well as a labour leader and laid the foundation for a new Edo.
“There is no doubt that he will take the party to greater heights,” he said.
Earlier, a Bill for a law to regulate the Edo State Public Finance Management and Fiscal Responsibility passed second reading at plenary.
Leading debate on the bill, the Majority Leader, Roland Asoro (APC-Orhionmwon South), said that if passed, it would provide effective framework for financial management in the state.
Asoro said that the bill would help to develop proper accounting system and eliminate corruption.
Other lawmakers unanimously supported the passage of the bill.
The speaker, thereafter, directed the bill to the Committee on Finance for fine-tuning and directed that the committee should report back to the House in one week.
Similarly, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, also congratulated Oshiomhole for his victory at the National Convention of the APC, saying he received the news of his election with great joy.
The monarch said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Desmond Agbama, in Benin that the emergence of Oshiomhole as national chairman of the party was well deserved.
According to him, it is so, especially when viewed against the background of his successes and achievements as National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and as governor of Edo.
The Oba prayed that God and their ancestors should grant Oshiomhole wisdom, knowledge and good health to steer the ship of APC well
