JUST as the crisis which rocked the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the election of National Assembly leaders is settling, another crisis appears to raising its ugly head. Sources close to the party said that the APC national officers were now at loggerheads with the National Assembly over the appointment of principal officers of the legislature.

As members of the National Assembly resume next Tuesday, June 23, sources said there had been pressures on the APC to allow the party to appoint principal officers of the two chambers and some key committee positions.

The development, it was learnt, had again reignited supporters of Bukola Saraki, president of the Senate and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the House of Representatives, to be up in arms against the leadership of the party. Saraki and Dogara had, on Tuesday, June 9, gone against the party’s leadership directives to emerge as Senate president and speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

Members of both houses of legislature were said to have been resisting the party moves thereby causing confusion, again in the party.

The sources, who were visibly angry over the development, said that it was another attempt by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party to diminish the power of Saraki and Dogara.

The four principal offices to be filled by the APC in the Senate and the House of Representatives are Senate/House leader, deputy Senate/House leader, chief Whip and deputy chief Whip.
