APC Primary: Group Tasks Delegates on Democratic Values
Political Briefs

ONDO State Eminent Persons Group, an advocacy group, has called on all the delegates participating in the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary holding on Saturday, September 3, in Ondo State, to reject financial inducement aimed at swaying them from voting for the aspirants of their choice. No fewer than 24 aspirants are seeking the party’s governorship ticket in the primary.
The group asked the delegates to think beyond the aspirants’ promises and reflect on their capabilities to bring about desired and purposeful governance.
In a statement signed by Banji Alabi, its national chairman, the group said posterity would not forgive the delegates if they mortgage the future of the state for just one plate of pottage.
“Corruption makes democracy impossible because it subverts the will of the people. A select few, with so much money and authority, continue to steal elections and mock the notion of government by the people and for the people.
“Corruption is one of the greatest crimes the world has ever known. This is the crucial hour for the APC delegates in Ondo State; the hour to elect a credible candidate for the November 26 governorship election is now. The decision the delegates take on Saturday will determine if they love the development of the state or a plate of pottage that may be served them by those interested in manipulating the process.
“This is the time for the delegates to be bold and reject attempts to buy their conscience. This is the time to be more determined to promote democratic values. This is the time for the delegates to prove that they are men and women of honour. This is the time for the delegates to elect the candidate of honour who has the right vision and relevant understanding of how to run a purposeful government,” it said.
