CYPRIAN Afunugo, the coordinator, The Victor Umeh campaign organisation in Dunukofia South, has appealed to Victor Umeh, recently elected senator, to influence the creation of additional state out of the existing South East geo-political zone.
“The essence is to bring the zone at par with other zones in the country,’’ Afunugo said.
Dunukofia South comprises Ifite Dunu, Umunnachi and Umudioka.
Afunugo, who spoke to the media in Awka following Umeh’s victory at the polls, urged him to address the dismantling of illegal road blocks mounted by the Nigerian Customs Service, in Shagamu, Ore, Benin, Agbor, Onitsha and Owerri.
He noted that these check points were adversely affecting where Igbo importers are extorted after paying import duties at the Lagos port.
The APGA chieftain asked Umeh to move for redesigning of revenue allocation formula with a view to curbing misnomer in allocating more funds to states with more local government areas than those with fewer LGs.
Fidelis Malife, the senior special assistant to the governor on Political Matters, said the APGA’s victory provided platform for the Igbos to be heard through a strong voice like Umeh, who he aptly described as the “voice of the voiceless.’’
Malife commended Obiano for providing the assistance for Umeh’s victory.
