A Magistrate Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old applicant, Bitrus Mathias to six months  in the correctional centre for stealing phones.

The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Mathias after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The convict was however given an option of N10, 000 fine and to also pay a compensation of N100, 000.

The Judge said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 31, at the “A” Division Police Station by Victoria Kurnap, the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the convict stole three phones valued at N175, 000 from  complainant’s shop.

He said the offence is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law. (NAN)
