PROF. Mahfouz Adedimeji, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University (APU), has expressed shock over the demise of Prof. Muhammad Akanbi, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU).

Adedimeji mourned his colleague in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ilorin.

He said the news of the death was received with utter shock and complete befuddlement.

He stated that our young university community is devasted, adding however that almighty Allah knows best.

“As an individual, it is a personal loss as I have lost a benefactor, brother, leader and cheerleader.

“A straight tree in the forest of men, Prof. Akanbi stood tall among his contemporaries with his stellar qualities,” he said.

He described the late Akanbi as an erudite scholar, legal luminary, shrewd administrator and cerebral intellectual from whose vast endowments APU has benefitted immensely, adding that the deceased was a role model for all.

According to him, late Akanbi epitomised dedication, discipline, devotion, selflessness and integrity, all of which have taken KWASU to a new height within the short time of being its helmsman.

“On behalf of our grief-stricken University, especially the Founder, Hon. Aliyu Ahman-Pategi, the Board of Trustees, the Governing Council, the Senate, staff and students of the University, I commiserate with his immediate family, the Akanbi-Oniyo family, the University of Ilorin, Kwara State University, Ilorin Emirate, the bar and the academia.

“I fervently pray that the Almighty Allah overlook his shortcomings, forgive his sins, accept his return and admit him to Aljannah Firdaus, Amin,” he said. (NAN)
