Arase makes case for proper recognition of journalists

SOLOMON Arase, chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Inspector General of Police has called for proper recognition and celebration of Nigerian Journalists who have continued to work to shape a better future for our nation.
Arase spoke on the sidelines of the World Press Freedom Day 2024 held globally on Friday May 3rd 2024.
He noted that Nigerian Journalists deserved the support and encouragement of every Nigerian as they work to assist sustain our fledgling democracy.
He noted their sacrifices and pains and called for a better working environment for Members of the Fourth Estate of Realm.
The World Press Freedom Day with theme; “A Press for the Planent: Journalism in the face of the environmental crisis is dedicated to the importance of Journalism and Freedom of Expression in the current global crisis.
It is celebrated on May 3 every year to commemorate the fundamental principles of the Press and to honour World Journalists.
The Day stresses the importance of a free and independent Press and promotes the freedom of expression in the world.
The PSC Chairman expressed happiness that Nigeria is one of the few nation’s in the world that runs a wholly free Press and Freedom of Expression.
He said the present Federal government has ensured that the Media and its practitioners have enjoyed not only Freedom but support and encouragement in the discharge of its duties.
He said he has personally maintained a close and rewarding Relationship with the media throughout his working career and has not only sustained it at the Commission but improved on it.
Arase said he sees the Media as a veritable partner in progress and advised that they should reciprocate Government’s good gesture and contribute to national development.
